Where Is Your Drishti Today?
In yoga, drishti is often translated as “gaze” or “focused point of attention.” It helps steady the body, quiet the mind, and keep us from being pulled in a hundred different directions.
Off the mat, drishti may be even more important.
Each morning we wake up with a limited supply of attention. It is one of our most precious resources, yet many of us spend it without much thought. We scatter it across worries, distractions, endless scrolling, complaints, and things we can’t control. By the end of the day, we can feel depleted without having invested our energy in anything that truly nourishes us.
What if we treated our attention like the finite resource it is?
Notice where your drishti lands throughout the day. Does the focus you’re giving leave you feeling inspired, connected, curious, or energized? Or does it leave you feeling drained, agitated, and empty?
Attention grows what it rests upon.
If what you’re focusing on isn’t lifting you up, choose something that does.
Read a few pages of a good book. Work on a puzzle. Spend time in the garden. Play a game with someone you love. Create a meal with care. Clear a cluttered drawer. Write a letter to someone just because you’re thinking of them.
These simple acts may seem small, but they bring us back to ourselves. They remind us that life is happening here, in this moment, not somewhere else.
Your drishti shapes your experience.
Today, choose your gaze wisely. Your attention is valuable. Spend it on something worthy of your life.
